Cross Roads

The famous puddle shimmers before him. He stands back at the crossroads; another new planet, another new life. Closing his eyes like he had the first time, he takes a step forward...

...and cracks his boot against the metal Stargate. Alarms scream needlessly, warning power has been cut from the gate room. In the red glaze of the emergency lights Jack stands at the base of the ramp.

“I said no.”

“You can’t say no. I don’t belong to you. I never have.”

“You always have.”
