Went to the BBC's An Evening with Dalziel and Pascoe at Birmingham Uni
last night. :-) ::big smile::

Completely wonderful to see them, first time they've ever done anything
like it so it was so good to be there :-)

Firstly, they're both lovely! And they're obviously close - they kept
leaning in to confer for answers to various questions.

Warren was looking very slim in a dark, pin-stripe suit with a white shirt
and pink tie, Colin was in a dark green suit with an open-collar purple
shirt - which sounds iffy but he looked great.

The room was set out with tables (like the old oscar ceremonies), we were
two tables back from the front and probably the youngest people in the
room! It was hosted by Ed-someone from BBC WM radio (Warren's on his show
to be broadcast Sunday, 3pm - see the BBC Midlands Today website cos it
should be listen-able-to on there!). Then Colin and Warren came on stage
and they showed some clips from D&P on a big screen.

Ed asked them questions for around half an hour - including one about
Warren's kilt in 'Great Escapes'. He refused to say what was under it but
he did say Colin made him wear it! And he said there were hailstones
going up his kilt!

Ed asked about worst moments on camera, Colin said it was when he had to
do a sex scene for Mol Flanders and he was just back from hols with a
suntan line and the make-up people had to "paint" his ass so it didn't
show! Then Ed asked Warren about his worst moment and he said, 'painting
Colin's ass'!

Apparently Colin went to drama school with David Royle. David dropped out
of filming D&P three weeks before 'Great Escapes' was filmed and it seems
to have upset both Colin and Warren but Colin said he was still good
friends with David and they'd have him back if he wanted to come back.

Next series - 5 episodes are being filmed including one in Holland!
Cooool. They were both more than happy to still be doing it.

The last series - Beth was right. Warren played 'Dead Meat' like a man
still freaked out over almost losing someone he 'cares very deeply for',
then backed it off over the next two eps.

He told a story about filming 'Heads You Lose' - apparently when they were
doing the first night in the hospital, Andy was being all emotional and
deep and saying all those wonderful things about Peter. There was a quiet
moment and all they could hear was Colin snoring - he'd fallen asleep on
the hospital bed!

There was an interval, then we could hand in our own questions. They
talked about Brum, about football, about local Indian restaurants (!).
Colin gave a two-bar rendition of 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' which
Warren then picked up.

Col: 'You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips
And there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips'
Warren: 'You're trying hard not to show it'
Col: (spoken) 'baby'

It was ace - Colin has a *great* voice!

At the end they were mobbed by grannies for autographs so, hey, who am I
to argue? Got Warren's first - had to get his pen working for him which
earned me one of those wonderful 'educated sod' looks :-) Then Colin's -
he was laughing so much, he'd been so nervous on stage. But he was lovely
- really friendly with a lovely smile.

I'm sure I'll remember more later :-)

excited, bouncing hugs
