A Study In Light - The Wedding
by elfin

It was Christmas time.

In a small chapel just inland from the North Kohala Coast of Hawaii, Sonny and Rico stood face to face to declare their love for one another.

Rico was clad in rich, black silk.

Sonny was in creme; a luxurious silk shirt in 'pirate' style, with flowing sleeves tucked into loose pants.

One of the receptionists at their hotel - The Orchid at Mauna Lani - had threaded a string of tiny flowers into Sonny's sun-kissed hair, and a single white flower into Rico's.

Only a select few were present to witness their marriage.  Marty, Stan, Gina, Trudy and Billy stood in silence as the lady minister read the service.

"Standing before you - their friends - Sonny and Rico come together pledge themselves to each other in an eternal bond.  This is a timeless moment of hope and expectation. We witness the making of a covenant, as two persons publicly declare their intent to enter into an intimate relationship of enduring love, of deep fidelity and trust."

Shyly, Sonny smiled into his lover's eyes.

"James Sonny Crockett, do you promise to love Ricardo Mallarmé Tubbs through the best and worst?"

Sonny nodded once, taking Rico's hand and squeezing it.  "I do."

"Do you promise to be loyal to him, at the exclusion of all others.  To try to understand him, even when you don't agree?  To give yourself to him without reservation, cherish him and care for him for eternity?"

The word warmed him.  "I do."  They'd chosen an old Pagan commitment, one that did not end at death.

The minister repeated the vows, and Rico swore to them.

Billy stepped forward then, and held out his palm.  The minister took the two plain white-gold, narrow bands and handed one to Sonny.  He took Rico's hand and placed the ring on his finger, holding it just before the knuckle.

Gazing into wide eyes, he spoke, his voice trembling.  "I, James Sonny Crockett, give myself to you, my Rico.  You're the other half of my soul and I would be lost without you."

He pushed the ring further onto Rico's finger, lifting the hand to his lips to kiss the dark finger tips.

Even Marty wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.

Rico took Sonny's ring and held it in place.  "I, Ricardo Mallarmé Tubbs, give myself to you, my Sonny.  My life, my heart, would be empty without you."

Pushing the ring onto his lover's finger, he too kissed the fingertips, hearing the minister's words as he did.

"Sonny, Rico, you've made promises to each other in front of your witnesses which bind you for the rest of eternity.  I now declare you married by the laws of the state, in the eyes of your believes in religion, in each other and in your friends."  She smiled at one then the other, a twinkle in her eye.  "What are you waiting for?"

Laughing, Sonny and Rico wrapped their arms around one another, melting into each other, mouths sealing together.

Rico tipped Sonny back slightly, over the arm he had around his husband's waist.

When they finally parted, they faced their friends.  Billy practically ran into his father's arms, enfolding his Dad in a hug.  "Congratulations!"

"Thanks, Billy."

It was Rico's turn next, while the others all hugged and kissed first Sonny, then Rico.

They stepped out onto the sand, hand in hand.  There was a meal planned back at the exquisite hotel, then in the morning the others would fly back to Miami, and the happy couple would remain for two weeks of nothing but sun, sand, sea and sex.

"Makes a change," Stan commented as they walked along the private shore to the hotel.

Fingers linked through Rico's, Sonny just scowled, promising retribution.  Stan wiggled his eyebrows at him.

As they walked, Rico slipped his arm around Sonny's waist, pulling him closer.  "I love you, Sunshine," he murmured, touching his head to that of his lover.

"Love you too, Hubby."  When Rico turned his head, smile on his lips, Sonny leaned in to steal a kiss.  "Forever."
